Kaluzova, Alonso: Art and Design in Dialogue with the Anthropocene
In a modern Barcelona pulsing with creativity and collaboration, Eva Kaluzova and Xavi Alonso form a dynamic duo reminiscent of the synergy between Ray and Charles Eames. Together, they explore the intersections of art, design, and cultural exploration, creating works that deeply connect with contemporary themes.
Eva Kaluzova: The Art of Connection
Originally from Brno, Czech Republic, Eva Kaluzova has called Barcelona home for nearly two decades. Her artistic practice spans diverse disciplines, with a particular focus on acrylic painting on canvas. Eva’s work reflects an ongoing exploration of themes that seek to build connections with viewers, inviting them into a dialogue that transcends the surface of her pieces. Beyond painting, she engages with illustration, typography, and the creation of innovative game designs, constantly expanding the boundaries of her creative pursuits.
Eva’s art has been exhibited in solo and group shows across cities such as Brno, London, Barcelona, and Valencia, showcasing her ability to adapt and resonate across cultures and contexts. As part of her collaborative studio with Xavi Alonso, she is currently developing a bespoke collection for the gallery, aligned with its focus on the Anthropocene. This collection reflects Eva’s dedication to addressing urgent themes through a thoughtful and experimental approach.
Xavi Alonso: The Precision of Design
Xavi Alonso’s journey as a designer and communicator is rooted in over two decades of experience in Barcelona’s vibrant creative industry. His work spans graphic design, branding, editorial projects, illustration, and experimental game design, driven by an enduring curiosity about the dynamics of “hype” and creative processes.
Deeply inspired by the Bauhaus movement, Xavi views its principles as a guiding framework for his explorations in design and illustration. His passion for the interplay between form, function, and storytelling informs his approach, whether he is crafting brand identities or delving into visual narratives. As cofounder of the creative studio with Eva Kaluzova, Xavi is also contributing to the gallery’s upcoming collection, bringing a precise and reflective perspective to the shared project.
Together in Creation
Eva and Xavi’s studio embodies the collaborative ethos of modern Barcelona. Their work, much like the city itself, is a dialogue between past and future, local and global, art and design. By merging their distinct yet complementary practices, they invite audiences to engage with ideas that are both visually compelling and intellectually provocative. Their ongoing collection for the gallery not only reflects their shared vision but also serves as an invitation to explore the transformative potential of art and design in contemporary life.
A Temporary Intersection of Art, Design, and the Anthropocene
Kaluzova, Alonso: Art and Design in Dialogue with the Anthropocene, January 30th – March 12th.
Opening: January 30th and 31st, 15.00-21.30, Carrer de Margarit 30
Eva Kaluzova and Xavi Alonso are currently channeling their creative synergy into a temporary exhibition at mono30.
The exhibition, conceived as a multifaceted exploration of graphic design as a tool for storytelling, seeks to unravel the complex interplay between humanity and the environment. Through a series of previous works and some original pieces produced for the gallery, they examine how visual communication can confront the realities of environmental degradation, technological overreach, and social inequality—while simultaneously proposing new ways of seeing, understanding, and engaging with these issues.
At mono30, their works not only stand as individual contributions to the discourse but also as a collaborative testament to the transformative potential of art and design. By interweaving their disciplines, they amplify the urgency of the Anthropocene’s message while showcasing the inherent adaptability and diversity of creative expression. This temporary exhibition underscores how art and design can inspire deeper engagement with the defining questions of our age—an invitation for audiences to reflect on their role within a shared and uncertain future.
